Can you explain to me what makes IU a good act…

Can you explain to me what makes IU a good actress in your eyes? I like her but I’m also really trying to understand why everyone’s praising her to the skies after My Mister. My favorite performance from her is actually in Producers, where I thought she stole the show from the other leads. But Ji Eun in My Mister always just has this one same steely look, and in gifs of the show I feel this one-dimensionality becomes very obvious: I couldn’t tell if she was feeling angry, or sad, or numb, etc.

(Continuing from my last ask about IU’s acting): the same with Man Wol in HDL. She does all the right expressions, and they’re all quite convincing, but I never feel like they go beyond the surface. Maybe she’s just not good at micro-expressions and that’s what I’m having trouble with? I hope you don’t mind this ask. I’m not ratting on her because I genuinely enjoy her shows and especially loved her in Producers, but I am struggling to understand the sudden love for her acting post HDL.

(More on IU): compare her with someone like, say, Han Ye-ri, or Esom, or PMY, who all have these really expressive embodiments of their respective characters, and the difference becomes quite stark, I feel.

***

Let me start off by saying that I don’t pretend to have any expertise in the subject of acting. I both praise and criticize it as an amateur and a layman. I just know what works for me and what doesn’t work for me. So when you ask me this question, understand that for me the measure of what makes someone a good actor or a bad actor will always, by necessity, have an huge element of subjectivity to it. What is good or bad is going to be largely in the eye of the beholder. And so when I answer you it’s going to be on the basis of my subjective opinion and my experience following Lee Ji Eun’s acting consistently through 5 different projects since 2015.

That being said, there has been a dramatic turn around in the general fandom response to IU’s acting in the past two years, and that’s not by accident. She’s been involved in some high profile projects (My Mister, Persona, and most recently HDL) that have allowed her to showcase different aspects of her talent and demonstrate a distinct progression in her technical abilities and people are sitting up to take notice.

Three years ago I was interacting with posts on tumblr about her lead role in Scarlet Heart Ryeo, where both Knetz and English speaking drama fans were claiming that she was single-handedly ruining the show for them. That she only had one, saucer-eyed expression and that she wasn’t able to keep up with her more seasoned male costars.  Now that she’s in the fandom’s good graces they like to forget, but the vitriol (which female idols in general still frequently face, btw) was nearly constant at that time. I wholehearted disagreed with her critics then, and I disagree with them now.

image

I had first become aware of IU while watching Producers, which was also the first drama I ever watched as it was airing in the days of Dramafever. I was completely enamored with her portrayal of Cindy and I, like you, thought she completely stole the show, despite coming into the drama as a fan of her costars. From then on, I’ve been a fan of her as an actor and I’ve enjoyed all of her subsequent projects to greater or lesser degrees.

My Mister was the turning point in her career.  I’m on the record on tumblr as saying that My Mister is my favorite Kdrama. Ji An is my tumblr icon. I’ve made my partiality no secret. And for me, the reason should be obvious. The drama was controversial but it was also a huge critical success, with a beloved, veteran director at the helm, and I think it made people change their preconceptions about her. If she is being praised for HDL, then I would credit My Mister as the reason. People went from dismissing her out of hand as another singer who made a mediocre actress, to hailing her as one of the best idol actors out there.

If you can’t see why, or you think her performance in that drama is “one-dimensional” then a reply from me is probably not going to convince you otherwise. However, I have to ask due to the way you’ve phrased the question about My Mister in particular: Have you actually watched the drama, or are you only familiar with it from social media and gifs? Because if it’s the later, I can see why you might have formed this opinion. My Mister is an incredibly restrained drama, and the characters in general but Ji An specifically, carry a lot of trauma and emotion beneath the surface and are very reluctant to give anything away lest they be viewed as weak by others. If it’s the former, and you have seen the drama, then I don’t know how you can say, in all sincerity, the performance is one-dimensional or that Ji An only has one expression.

Certainly, Ji An is a very “steely” character.  But that’s because she lives her life on a knife’s edge. When we meet her it’s like she’s already dead, living in despair, trapped in a situation that she can’t see a way out of and perhaps on some level she doesn’t thinks she deserves to escape from. She slowly, very slowly, comes back to life over the course of the drama. That’s is how she is written. I would go further and say that is probably how IU was directed to play her (an actor isn’t an island, the director has a lot of say too in what they show and what they don’t.) I think there are many shades of subtlety in the performance, which cannot be captured by facial expressions alone. They come down to the timbre of her voice, the way she moves and holds herself, etc. Many of which can’t be captured in a gif sets or in stills. However to say that those expressions are the only things IU gets to show in the drama is simply disingenuous.

She gets to show the hard edges of disgust, fear, self-loathing, and cruelty. She also gets to show vulnerability, heartbreak, softness and remorse. She has explosive scenes, she has wrenching scenes, she has quiet scenes of grief and of gratitude.

image

(Couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for on tumblr so I grabbed these gifs off google images, credit to the gifmakers.)

I think she showcases them all. Maybe these emotions and they’re expression aren’t what you’re looking for in “good acting”. Perhaps there is another deficiency you are seeing that I’m not. Or maybe the way she shows these things isn’t loud enough, big enough or varied enough for your tastes. If that’s the case, then I don’t know what to tell you. Something about it isn’t striking a chord with you. It did for me. There’s really nothing I can do to change your mind.

However, I would venture to ask…did you have the same criticism for Lee Sun Kyun? His character is hardly so expressive that what you’ve said about Ji An couldn’t just as easily apply to Dong Hoon. I’ll go so far as to posit what you might be having a problem with in My Mister is the direction and not the acting.

As far as your critique on HDL that she “does all the right expressions, and they’re all quite convincing, but I never feel like they go beyond the surface” I’m not sure what to tell you. If she does all the right expressions AND they are convincing then how can you say they don’t beyond the surface? If they don’t go beyond the surface, then aren’t what you really saying is they aren’t convincing? At least to you? It could just be that you’re not connecting with her character for one reason or another, or maybe some of the idiosyncrasies of IU’s acting style just don’t connect with you. Maybe this is just a “different strokes for different folks” issue.

I, for one, do not enjoy Suzy’s acting. I think she’s perfectly serviceable as an actor, and she’s improved in recent projects. Even so, she never works for me especially in crying scenes. And kind of like with what you’ve said above, I think she makes the right expressions at the right times, but something about it rings false for me. And I’ve watched enough of her stuff at this point to be certain it wasn’t a one off.

But when it comes down to comparing one actor to another, or IU specifically to some of the actors you’ve mentioned, again I can only plead subjectivity. Different actors bring different strengths to their projects, and some projects require different things of their actors. I could sit here and dither with you about Han Ye Ri (who I think is the best out of the three you’ve mentioned above, and the most similar to IU in the characters she picks and how she plays them) and her different characters, but it would only be a wheel spinning exercise since we’re never going to have an exact one-to-one comparison between people.

To summarize, I believe you when you say you sent this ask in good faith. And I did my best to answer you, though I’m afraid you may not find my analysis very satisfying. This isn’t a subject I can approach with a lot of objectivity, because IU is one of my favorites and like I said, I’m just an amateur critic. If you’re noticing a lot of love and praise post HDL, I think it’s probably a result of the boost she got from My Mister and not as much because of her current drama on its own. Although I think she’s continuing to demonstrate that she knows what she’s doing and her turns in My Mister or Producers or Persona weren’t just a fluke.

Don’t feel like you have to like something just because other people are telling you it’s good. And don’t feel like you have to criticize something because it’s suddenly grown in popularity in a way you didn’t expect. Don’t take all of this too seriously, and try to enjoy yourself out there. That’s all any of us are trying to do, and I think it’s easy to lose sight of that.

Sorry for the long reply. Thank you for the ask.

[TRANS] 190711 OnlyU-IU China share fun moment…

4seasonswithiu:

Our staff members double checked the items before the departure with an anxious heart. Fortunately, we were able to reach the set on time despite the heavy traffic. The food truck, tent, tables and banners were all set up when we arrived at the set. Then, it took us another 40 minutes to prepare all the gifts by putting them carefully in each paper bag and stacking them up on the table beside the buffet tent.

image

Not too long after we were done with the gift preparations, manager Hanteo approached us, gave us his warm greetings before checking out the buffet tent. As the weather was pretty hot, Hanteo jokingly told us that he would ‘drink’ all the (Ghana) chocolates within the gift bag right away. When going through the other gifts, we especially pointed out that the Voluspa aromatherapy candles were for IU Team, so Hanteo thanked us in Mandarin, saying “xie xie!” as well.

image

He reminded us that since we would have to wait a little longer, so stay away from the sun in some shade. He also passed on the gifts to director Oh, actor Yeo Jin Goo and IU Team. Later, PD told us we could pass the gift to IU in person in a while.

We gave the staff of Hotel Del Luna the gifts we prepared as they passed by from time to time. During break or dinner time, some staff came to collect their gifts and we got the HDL team PD to pass on the remaining gifts to other busy staff on the set.

image

Around 8PM, IU finally appeared in her pony tail, white loose t-shirt and pants. Since the coffee truck was right beside the entrance, so she took lots of proof photos with the help of Hyesun and the new manager (Moon Ji Hwan) first. After greeting us, she expressed her gratitude for the gifts and meal that we prepared, telling us that she would enjoy the meal and asking whether we were hungry as well or not. We still managed to tell her that we were ‘hungry’ though our mind went completely blank at that moment as we were softened by her sweet tender eyes. IU then invited us to join her for dinner.

image
image

The HDL team PD also encouraged us to sit beside IU for dinner. Together, we also had Hanteo, Hyeseon and the new manager (Ji Hwan) with us in one table, and thankfully all of them ate a lot. IU seemed to have noticed how nervous we were, so she kept initiating conversations with us. She said, “we (IU Team) are usually quiet whenever we eat, and given the hot weather and packed filming schedules today, so everyone’s still in a daze. Did all of you travel all the way from China? It must have been hard for you guys to be here given the scorching hot weather.” When she was told that some of us would have to catch the early morning flight in a bit, she frowned as pain and sadness clouded her features.

image
image

When eating, director Oh came by so IU introduced him to us and we quickly bowed to him. Director Oh was pretty adorable and not all that serious or solemn as he greeted us enthusiastically and expressed his gratitude for our support. He kept the Hotel Del Luna customised towel around his neck all the time, even when he was having his meal.

image

Seeing how most of them were almost done eating, we brought out the gifts and explained to them about the Diptyque’s limited edition ‘The Legend of the North’ series’ candles first. IU was touched upon knowing that we chose the candles because it suits Man Wol’s mysterious aura, saying “ah~ because it suits Man Wol!”. She also let out a tiny ‘wow’ when we told her we bought GUCCI’s A Kiss from Violet perfumed oil for her because its violet scented (IU’s favourite). We also let IU have a look at our charity/ donation certificate, telling her that hundreds of Uaenas participated in the donation and some of us visited the institute with some necessities and played with the kids there to which IU replied ‘aigoo’ tsunderely/ proudly and dearly. She also inquired about the details and complimented us ‘Hen BBang!’ (so amazing) in Mandarin since one of us personally went to the welfare institute. IU gave us a big thumbs up, saying ‘Zzen Bbang! Xie xie!’ (really amazing! thank you!) when we explained to her about the necessities that we have donated. One of us caught on the right timing of the atmosphere and started applauding, to which IU joined her right away, followed by Hyeseon, Hanteo and all HDL staff from other tables who had no idea of what’s going on. It suddenly turned into an ocean of harmony 😂.

We also told IU about her super topic ‘#IU’ that has accumulated over 10 billion reads on Weibo recently and she was ultimately shocked. Since she’s not familiar with how weibo functions, so we explained to her that the hashtag is sort of a community on weibo where people could leave their posts, comments, votes and screenshots there to support her. She seemed to have grasped on the super topic concept after going through some of our posts in the hashtag section and showed off the milestone achievement to people around her.

IU: Hey, I achieved 10 billion reads!
Hanteo and Hyeseon: As expected from the scale of mainland China, they don’t just simply go with (small numbers like) ten thousands when it comes to calculations.

image

We pass the <10 Years of Flower Road> to IU, sharing with her that C-Uaenas designed, edited and compiled everything about her within this book in celebration of her 10th anniversary. We also tried to find the best printing manufacturer that we could to bring out the best quality of it. As soon as she got the book on hands, she kept gasping in admiration, saying “wow this is truly amazing. This is impressive, OnlyIU’s scale is no joke” as she flipped through the pages slowly. She especially stopped at one of the pages which contained IU Team’s photo, too bad the whole book was written in Chinese so the staff unnie tried to cheer her up by telling her that they could translate right away using mobile apps. All of them joked a few times about looking for someone who knows Mandarin and asked everyone to hurry up and learn the language too.

IU really likes the calligraphy gift that we gave her so she took a special proof shot with it. Since it’s written in Chinese, she asked us about the meaning of the poem. We were still in a daze at that time so we only explained briefly that it’s a poem about the moon. IU said she would try to look for a professional to interpret it.

Poem: The Moon Festival by Su Shi

When will the moon be clear and bright?
With a cup of wine in my hand, I ask the blue sky.
I don’t know what season it would be in the heavens on this night.
I’d like to ride the wind to fly home.
Yet I fear the crystal and jade mansions are much too high and cold for me.
Dancing with my moon-lit shadow,
It does not seem like the human world.
The moon rounds the red mansion stoops to silk-pad doors,
Shines upon the sleepless Bearing no grudge,
Why does the moon tend to be full when people are apart?
People may have sorrow or joy, be near or far apart,
The moon may be dim or bright, wax or wane,
This has been going on since the beginning of time.
May we all be blessed with longevity though far apart,
We are still able to share the beauty of the moon together.

Even though we are thousands of miles and oceans (Yellow Sea) apart,
nothing can stop us from surrendering our hearts to the full moon (Man Wol)
C-Uaenas present president Jang Man Wol this poem
And may the opening of Hotel Del Luna blossom

*Yellow Sea is a marginal sea of the Pacific Ocean located between mainland China and the Korean Peninsula.
*Full Moon is pronounced the same way as Man Wol in both Chinese and Korean.

Note: This is a famous Mid-Autumn lyric written by Sushi(a poet in Song Dynasty) for his brother Zi-you(1039-1112) when the poet was away from the imperial court. According to some commentators, “the palace on high” might allude to the imperial palace and therefore, after reading this lyric, Emperor Song Shen Zong said that Su Shi was loyal.

When IU was giving us her signature as acknowledgement (of the fan support), we noticed that IU’s mandarin pinyin skills were remarkably impressive, she came up with most of the pinyin (as shown in the picture) and kept seeking confirmation from us (just incase she made a mistake). She wanted to write 시원한 여름 (a cool and refreshing summer) so badly because it kind of means “watching horror movies” in Korea too (납량). She wanted to write “we will see each other very soon” so she added “see you soon” in English too. It was obvious that IU urged to write using lots of pinyin but she didn’t have much time since the drama team was rushing to another filming venue already. Nevertheless, she drew a big thumbs up and yummy bowl of rice for us and was eventually made fun by IU Team. They jokingly asked her “what are those?”, making IU shooting daggers at them keke.

image

“Dear. OnlyU-IU China ♥
Thank you all!!
Well done!! 👍
Yummy 🍚💕 Miss you guys…♥
I love you guys! Stay healthy! – from IU”

image

“Dear C-uaenas ♥
I miss you all very much
See U soon!
Don’t fall sick…☆
Thank you! 😊 – from IU”

Lastly, we told IU that we would enjoy watching the drama to which she replied “please do enjoy (watch) the show (properly), it’s very interesting.” She kept thanking us a few times in Mandarin after bidding farewell to us too.
The PD came by after that and took the huge IU (with her head facing down) photo away, explaining that he would hang it in the waiting room. We weren’t sure whose waiting room he was referring to since we didn’t dare to question more, so we could only pray and hope earnestly that he’s taking it to IU’s room TT.

Then we sent off the coffee truck & buffet tent owners and bid farewell to the entire crew on set before leaving. We lost count of how many times we went around the set to bow (give greetings) to make sure we didn’t miss any corner of it.

Despite being short of hands due to some of our members who couldn’t make it last minute, but we are very happy to have completed the fan support, passed IU her gift in person and relayed her greetings and thanks to C-Uaenas safely. We are fully aware that IU made lots of adorable facial expressions and kept a smile on her face all the time because she wanted to express her gratitude towards Uaenas who worked hard together to bring up the fan support to her on set. Once again, we thank Uaenas who contributed in this fan support. We will continue to give IU the best fan support!

[TRANS] 190707 IU’s China Fanclub ‘OnlyU-IU Ch…

4seasonswithiu:

It was revealed on July 6 that IU’s China Fanclub ‘OnlyU-IU China’ (@onlyIUcn on twitter) sent a coffee truck, buffet catering service and many gifts to the set of Hotel Del Luna. OnlyIUcn then shared some details of the thoughtful presents that they prepared specially for IU, IU Team and Hotel Del Luna’s staff members.

“As soon as IU confirmed her role in ‘Hotel Del Luna’, our staff members started preparing for this fansupport which took us months of effort. Previously, we predicted that they would kick off the production in April so we prioritised IU’s birthday gift first (in May). Other than organising charity events, we chose GUCCI’s A Kiss from Violet perfumed oil from ‘The Alchemist’s Garden’ collection. This perfumed oil is said to emit the purest, nonirritant and long-lasting scent due to its significantly lower alcohol content as compared to other perfumes. Since this collection has yet to be launched in China, South Korea and Japan, so our Uaenas from ShenZhen travelled to Hong Kong to purchase it for IU. We chose this perfume because it’s violet scented and also symbolises our ‘flying kiss’ to IU.

image
image

The second birthday gift was carefully decided after taking Man Wol’s character into consideration, which is Diptyque’s limited edition ‘The Legend of the North’ series’ candles. We purchased Sapin de Lumiere (Pine Tree of Light) (Green) and Baume d’Ambre (Amber Balm) (blue) candles and candlestick to match with Man Wol’s aloof aura ^u^ What’s special about this series is that the candle jar is deigned by HERMES’ scarf designer.

image

Sapin de Lumiere (Pine Tree of Light) Candle – Green – This is a staple in all Diptyque Christmas candles. It carries the unmistakeable green scent of pine, warmed and evoking crisp air, pine cones and a freshness of pine needles.

image

Baume d’Ambre (Amber Balm) Candle – Blue – A warm, spicy scent of benzoin, lavender and vanilla. Not too strong, with a freshness of lavender.

“To Miss IU Lee Jieun:

We have received 544 baby pampers, 100 box of colored pencils, 100 drawing blocks, 35 big bags of rice, 35 packs of flour, 24 bottles of oil and a total of 6092.40 yuan from your China fans.

We hereby express our gratitude for your act of kindness!”

As for actor Yeo Jin Goo, we prepared Scent Library X White Rabbit fragrance product gift set (perfume, hand cream, body lotion)

image

(We forgot to take a picture of the actual gift, but it’s within the black paper bag. The other bags included tea bags, liquor, candles and IU’s Gucci perfume)

image

For the Hotel Del Luna team, we also prepared the HDL customised towels, Forbidden City imperial kitchen’s fridge magnets, Ghana chocolate and greeting cards

(This Forbidden City imperial kitchen fridge magnet symbolises our food support and the ghosts that we sent from the Forbidden City to check into Hotel Del Luna hahahah)

We included a greeting card in each gift bag with the message “Thanks to your hardwork on such scorching hot weather, we get to enjoy a nice and cool summer. Thank you! Hwaiting!

We started preparing for the buffet since long ago, and we especially requested them to prepare IU’s favourite tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cakes) and Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork)! We tried to match the decoration with president Man Wol’s extravagant style by adding the golden chairs~ The banners and pictures on table were all specially designed by our art team.

We also sent a refreshing coffee truck to the set for Man Wol and the HDL team~

No gifts can fully express our support and excitement for Man Wol. So we hope our sincerity can be conveyed by at least a bit! We only wish for our Man Wol to be truly happy!

[TRANS] 190302 ‘IU with Ghana’ Fan Meeting – I…

4seasonswithiu:

IU: It’s been a while since I last greeted all of you right? Did you all miss me? (YESSS) I think the weather has gotten a lot warmer~ I came lightheartedly and dressed prettily in spring outfit with big earrings and applied the trendiest lipstick color to meet y’all today. This venue gives off familiar vibes of the small-theatre concert that we had years ago. I also came with my mint microphone to match with the spring vibes, so I thought it’d be great if Ghana could release mint flavoured chocolate too. I think it’s gonna sell like hotcakes, don’t you think so? Who wants mint Ghana chocolate? (MEEEEE!!!!!!) Well I’m sure some of you don’t fancy the flavour, but if Ghana were to release it, I would do my best to promote it! As one of the loyal consumers, I could say that Ghana’s my soul food, so I hope to keep endorsing this if I’m ever given the chance to. My love for Ghana is quite obvious to be honest, you can definitely tell that I look a bit more excited in Ghana’s CFs as compared to the others. I was so happy upon receiving the offer from Ghana, you can say that i’m a successful fan! So I have a lot of affection for it, and i’m sure some of you feel the same way as I do too. Do you love Ghana? (YESSSS) Now, I’ll perform another song before we proceed to the next session, which is Palette. I bet this will be my last chance to perform ‘Palette’ before I officially turn 26 (internationally).

IU: How did y’all get to attend this event?
Uaenas: Lottery-based system! The more you purchase, the higher chances you’d get.
IU: But I’m sure there are people who just genuinely like Ghana chocolate and got chosen right?
Guy: Yea, that’s me
IU: It’s okay, I’ll just turn you into my fan through this event today~
Uaenas: /cheers/

Q&A SESSION

Q1. Unnie, can you please reveal you account number by ‘mistake’…?

IU: You want me to reveal my account number…? What do you want to send me 😂 As much as I want to, I honestly can’t remember my account number, so I’ll just accept your heart today.

Q2. What’s the song that you’re into these days?

IU: Actually, I’ve been working on (composing) lots of songs these days. Nowadays, I’ve been listening to songs by Still Woozy, who’s a foreign artist and umm…. never mind, I don’t think you guys would know them as you can tell by now that I have weird music taste. But my fans have diverse music taste, so I really want to recommend a good song for them.

Uaena: Tell us about your new song!

IU: My new song is really good. (*cheers*) I think the album will turn out to be really amazing! No doubt my fans are curious about this so I’ll talk a bit about it. I’m working on a new album, well not really new since I’ve mentioned before at my concert that it’s been modified and revised for many times (just like BBIBBI), basically the ‘tone’ itself has changed.

*IU said she initially wanted to write a song to show her gratitude towards Uaenas, but ‘BBIBBI’ eventually digressed quite a bit from that and turned into a warning song instead, a song about what makes a good relationship between people.

IU: I’ve added a few things so I was worried, but it turned out better than I expected. I think the only thing left is for me to do well for my part. I think I’m highly satisfied with the songs and I think the album will turn out to be something I’m satisfied with too. You guys know I don’t really talk about things like this right? I tend to keep it to myself when it comes to stuff like this but I think you guys can really look forward to my new album!

Q3. Your favourite Ghana chocolate?

IU: For me, it’s the milk chocolate. But these days when i’m bored, I chew on some caramel chocolate too, it’s yummy!

Q4. Jieunie noona, I lost my wallet today. Perhaps can you sing a song to cheer me up?

IU: How can you get back home without your wallet? Where’s your house, do you have a transportation card with you?

Uaena: I contacted my mom… (the fan is a middle-schooler)

IU: Oh no.. you must have had you student ID and cash in it…is it?

Uaena: 3000 won

IU: Oh…you would have been able to buy two Ghana chocolates with that 3000 won, but it’s okay I’ll give you two of it instead.

Q5. I’m a fan from Busan, my boyfriend is a Uaena too! What do you think of couple fans?

IU: I think they would be so happy! Though it’s something rare, but I think it’s great to be a ‘couple fans’! They can relate with each other and watch my concert together.

Uaena: We are planning to get married this year!

IU: I can sing a congratulatory song at your wedding then!

Q6. Jieun unnie, which of your many projects will be released first?

IU: Not sure if I can share this here but it’s probably the long awaited short film series ‘Persona’! The release date has finally been scheduled, but I can’t say anything for sure as the production team has their plans. I’ve been told that ‘Persona’ will be available on various great platforms in April. Please look forward to it.

Q7. Unnie, can we replicate the Uaena soundwave ring and wear it?

IU: For your information, I gave 2000 limited soundwave rings to my fans at a fan meeting in celebration of my 10th debut anniversary. I think the fan is referring to that but honestly haven’t you guys been doing that (replicating the ring) for awhile now? 😂 Our staff have seen lots of people wearing it and asked whether they were Uaenas (who attended the FM) but the fans told them it’s the replicated version. But how did you guys replicate it exactly like the original version? Is it possible?

Q8. What’s the movie of your life?

IU: It’s among the recent movies that I’ve watched. Not too recent, but I watched a movie called ‘The World Of Us’ during the end of last year. It’s a story about kids and there was a great line that really hit me at the end of the movie. Can I spoil the movie? A young girl kept getting bullied by the kids and her older sister was like “didn’t I tell you not to play with them? So what did you do next?” and the girl replied that she just continued to play with them. So her sister got so mad and asked her why didn’t she fight back but the girl replied “if we kept fighting back & forth, when will we ever get to play together?” The line hit me so hard because it was that great to me! It’s a healing movie.

once you stop fantasizing about that ideal version of yourself and start working towards becoming that person by setting your alarm clock earlier and actually going to the gym and actually volunteering at places and actually eating healthier and not procrastinating and working just a little bit harder you’ll realize that it was so easy all along. becoming your ideal self will only ever exist in your mind until you make the decision to work towards becoming that person. get up!! get going!! it’s now or never!! there is no light at the end of the tunnel!! get that flashlight and pave your own path bitch bc no one else is going to do it for u!!

Reblog if it’s ok for people to give you $599….

IU: How about this one?

Fan: Will you put ‘Drama’ on your next album?
IU: It’s about time right…!

Fan: Is there any disadvantage? to perming your fringe…? Since the weather is getting warmer, I’m thinking of letting the volume settle and cover my eyes…!
IU: There isn’t any disadvantage… When you’re growing out your fringe, it’s perfect (to perm it)!
IU: After perming your fringe, when you’re drying your hair, just use hair rollers on your fringe. It’s simple.

Fan: Are you going to put ‘You’ on your next album too then?
IU: Nope.

Fan: Any thoughts about reducing the time taken for your encore during concerts? Although I like it as a fan and want to watch you perform for a longer time, your concert audience is starting to take it for granted, which I feel sad about ㅠㅠ It’ll be tiring for you as a solo artist..
IU: For the sake of the quality of my concerts, I’m thinking of reducing the time taken for encore when possible! Though of course I’m not sure how successful I’ll be. Hah.

Fan: My friend keeps calling ‘Bam Pyeonji (Through the Night)’, ‘Bam Gicha (Night Train)’ instead. What should I do?
IU: Let’s go~!!! It’s a late night train~

Fan: Thanks to unni, I started studying music…🌸 I’m going to become the top scorer at school!!!!
IU: That’s awesome determination!!!
